Lee Garmes est un directeur de la photographie, réalisateur et producteur de cinéma américain. Dans les années 1930, sa fructueuse collaboration avec Josef Von Sternberg lui permet de montrer tout son talent. Sa photographie en noir et blanc se révèle exceptionnelle (notamment dans Shanghaï Express, pour lequel il reçoit l'Oscar)
